Designing GeodSoft's Web Site
Discusses designing a script maintained web site
with optimized graphics, small pages, adaptable to diverse browsing
habits, and accessible to the visually impaired. The evolution of
page design and site organization are covered. The issues discussed
are often relevant to all web sites.
Introduction
This section discusses the planning of and page design process in creating
the GeodSoft.com web site. It is intended as a case study. The
site's design has been changed several times and the pages discussing
the earlier designs are left largely as they were written. Typically
this was shortly after the changes being discussed were completed.
Sometimes it was as the changes were being made. Thus the page flow
is chronological.
The issues discussed in this Design section are global to all three
mirrored sites. For a discussion of the implementation and adminstrative
issues faced building mirrored sites on Linux, Windows NT and OpenBSD,
see the Building GeodSoft.com section.
