The World Wide Web
The Internet started as a comparatively small, U.S. government run
network connecting government, educational and research
institutions. The world wide web, referred to throughout this
paper simply as the web, is the TCP/IP application largely
responsible for a major transformation of the Internet. The
web changed the Internet into a huge commercial coalition
connected to by virtually every large business and most small
businesses in the developed world. Many millions of
people use the Internet every day.
